Tea has a ton of documented health benefits! I did some research and saw how tea can aid in many health problems such as losing weight to heart health:

- Weight loss:
- In a mice study, mice who were given green tea extract consumed less food, had less fat tissue accumulation, lower level of cholesterol and triglycerides than mice who did not consume green tea.
- Green tea was also shown to reduce levels of leptin. Leptin is a hormone that regulates appetite and metabolism and lower levels of leptin is associated with weight loss.
- Green tea is also known to cause a higher expenditure of calories by having a thermogenesis effect. It causes increased fat oxidation by having calories escaping in the formation of heat by the body.
- Heart Health - A 6 year study involving 4807 subjects showed that people who drank more than 3 cups of black tea per day had 68% less heart attacks over the non tea drinkers.
- Reduces diabetes risk - Black rea reduces risk of type 2 diabetes when consumed 1-4 cups per day.
- Reduces stroke risk- Black tea reduces risk of stroke when 4 cups or more per day are consumed.
- Anti- inflammatory - Green tea is also known for it's anti-inflammatory properties aiding in conditions such as arthritis. This is very important because most of the chronic diseases are associated with a higher inflammatory response in the body and green tea lowers the expression of inflammatory mediators.
- Stress Relief - L-Theanine, an amino acid in green and black tea, produces a tranquilizing effect.
- L-theanine causes the generation of alpha waves in the brain. Alpha waves are known for relaxed yet alert mental state.
- Green tea lowers levels of cortisol in the body during a stressful period (Cortisol levels increase during stress.)
- Anti- Cancer - Tea reduces the risk of some types of cancer such as UV-induced skin cancer.
- All Tea is good, but if you choose good quality loose-leaf or full-leaf teas you will taste the difference.
- For loose leaf teas you will need an inexpensive strainer like in the picture to the right. The flavor is so much better which will help you drink more!
- You can also get great teas in a bag. You want there to be actual pieces of leaves in the tea that you can see as opposed to powder. (Available in tea stores or health food stores)
- I add fresh mint leaves to every cup of tea I have, it tastes really good and most places carry it. Mint leaves also help in detoxing your body and sooth the your stomach after a meal.
